Yush Village, Mazandaran Province, Iran

It is one of the oldest villages of Mazandaran Province, located in Baladeh District in Nur County. The village is placed in a wide and beautiful valley which is totally surrounded by Alborz Mountain. Yush has cold winters and mild and pleasant springs and summers.
The villagers speak Mazandarani language with a Yushi dialect, they are Shia Muslims. They are occupied with farming, husbandry, gardening and making handicrafts. The most important handicrafts of Yush are spinning, homemade outer garment, traditional carpentry and building clay ovens.
Yush has a unique traditional architecture because of having narrow alleys through which small rivers are passing as well as the old houses with muddy walls. Most of the old houses are duplex. The traditional principles of the village have been followed even in building new houses and the only difference is the kind of used material.
In addition to its fantastic natural features, Yush Village is known with its cultural and artistic works such as Nima Yooshij’s home which is the most well-known one.

Nima Yooshij or Ali Esfandiari (1897- 1960) was an influential contemporary poet and the father of the new-era poem in Iran and it can be stated that all the contemporary Persian poems are owed to his innovation.
His house in Yush Village was built during Qajar Dynasty and his father lived there. The building has 3 entrances, shahneshin (a place for important guests and older members of the family) and various rooms which are decorated with brick and stucco. He was buried in the yard of this house and his house is in fact his tomb.
